Information technology company BAIP together with joint partners has finished implementing a year and a half long \u2018Total quality management system development in the health insurance funds\u2019 project. The purpose of the project was to optimise and standardise the activity and management processes of the whole organisation (National Health Insurance Fund and Territorial Health Insurance Funds), and was funded by the EU.<\/p>\n
Due to the fact that health insurance funds are responsible for confidential personal health data, information security is one of the main priorities. Therefore, during the project NHIF and THIF had to prepare and agree on over 70 documents, integrate all of the systems with the quality system of the NHIF, organise training of the employees. BAIP has evaluated risks associated with the continuity of the health insurance funds\u2019 activities and information security, documented the processes and methods and organised the certification of the health insurance funds\u2019 information security management system to the ISO\/IEC 27001:2005 standard, as well as certification of the IT services management system to the ISO 20000\/IEC 20000-1:2011 standard. <\/p>\n
These systems will ensure the information security, smoothness of the processes, risk management, integrity and continuity of activities. They will also guarantee that all of the health insurance funds\u2019 activity matches the strictest international requirements. Furthermore, it will improve communication between different departments as well as ensure secure information sharing with other personal health maintenance organisations, pharmacies and other participants of the National health system.<\/p>\n
The National Health Insurance Fund under the Ministry of Health (NHIF) is a state authority of the Republic of Lithuania providing the compulsory health insurance. Currently, NHIF, together with Territorial Health Insurance Funds (THIF), has access to one of the largest databases in the health care system, managing confidential personal data that has very high security and reliability requirements. Decisions made by the health insurance funds, as well as the functionality of the Insured registry, have a major impact on the decisions made by the health institutions and pharmacies, compensation for the expenditures related to the acquisition of reimbursable medicines, and other health benefits to the insured.<\/p>\n
